Homophobia

Everyone who is gay or bisexual will experience homophobia at least once in their life.

There are many ways homophobia can be expressed, and it is'nt always obvious. It could be someone dropping a 'harmless' comment about gay people or name calling to the extreme of getting beaten up for who you are. Some world leaders actually ban homosexuality in their country, even religion can be considered homophobic.

There are many different reasons why people are homophobic:

IT'S NOT NATURAL
This is getting harder and harder to prove as researchers have proven homosexuality exists in most animal species. Homosexuality behaviour is also found in all primate species on the planet.

IT'S DISGUSTING
Have straight people ever stopped to think that most gay people would consider their sexual behaviour to be disgusting? It may shock some straight people that many gay people think of their sexual behaviour as just as disgusting. What two consenting adults get up to is nobodys business but their own.

FEAR OF BEING COME ON TO
The reality of this is that a gay person is very unlikely to come onto a straight person, because for one, there is no chance of getting anywhere so what is the point? Another myth is that gay people fancy EVERYONE of the same sex, do straight people fancy everyone of the opposite sex? NO they dont!

LACK OF UNDERSTANDING
This could be one of the main reasons people are homophobic. They simply don't understand homosexuality.

IT'S AGAINST RELIGION
In most religions homosexuality is forbidden. This is why religion is considered to be homophobic.

THE FEAR OF ACTUALLY BEING GAY
Some gay people may relate to this, they may have been homophobic themselves at some point when coming to terms with their sexuality. This is known as the denial stage. It is when a gay person cannot quite get to grips and accept who they are. One of the ways in trying to deal with it is by being homophobic in an attempt to try and prove to themselves and others they are indeed something that they are not.
