Gay Cumbria - Police
Cumbria GLBT Liason Officers
Cumbria Constabulary has Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Liaison Officers operating within Cumbria. They perform this role alongside their normal duties.
Who are they?
Liaison officers comprise both officers and police staff and are representative of a broad cross section of our workforce. They are based throughout the county working in a variety of departments both in an operational and support capacity. Their appointment is a demonstration of our commitment to improving our links with and service provision to members of the LGBT community. In addition to the current race and diversity training provided to all staff they have received additional awareness training with a focus on LGBT issues.
What is their role?
It is not their role to take reports of incidents but they can offer advice and guidance in making a formal report and inform you of what will happen if you do. Once you have made a formal report of an incident they will remain in contact with you to ensure that you receive the appropriate service and are kept informed.

Making a complaint
The Police Complaints System is overseen by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and is governed by the Police Reform Act 2002. Having an open, accessible and responsive complaints system is important to Cumbria Constabulary and essential to public confidence.
If you wish to make a complaint about the conduct or behaviour of a police officer, member of the Special Constabulary or Police Support Staff, then you can do so by writing to us or e-mailing us using the details given below:
Professional Standards Department
Cumbria Constabulary
Carleton Hall
PENRITH
Cumbria
CA10 2AU
TEL: (01768) 217133
FAX: (01768) 217638
E-MAIL: PSDAdmin@cumbria.police.uk
Alternatively you can speak to one of our complaint investigators, Mr David Hitch (01768 217132), any police liaison officer or visit any main police station.
If initially, you do not want to make direct contact with the police, Complaint Access Points (C.A.P.) have been set up. One such C.A.P. is any Library or Mobile Library throughout Cumbria, who have the necessary information and documentation to assist you in making a complaint in strict confidence. This is then forwarded to the Professional Standards Department for attention. Gaycumbria are also happy to receive details of your complaint and notify PSD on your behalf.
By accessing the Cumbria Constabulary website www.cumbria.police.uk you can download a leaflet “ Your Guide to Complaints”, which will give you more information on how to make a complaint and what will happen after you do.
